Toxic Foods to Avoid

As I discussed in episode 8 of my podcast, aside from heavy metals there are other toxic things we consume all the time that we are unaware of. These are things such as certain foods, certain flavorings used, certain supplements we may be taking, and plastics. 

Toxic Foods:

Corn

Soy

Canola oil

Processed Beet Sugar

Eggs

Pork (second most carcinogenic meat after deli meats)

Farmed Fish

Gluten

MSG- is hidden is many foods under different names

  • Glutamate

  • Hydrolyzed

  • Autolyzed

  • Protease

  • Carrageenan

  • Maltodextrin

  • Sodium caseinate

  • Balsamic vinegar

  • Barely malt

  • Malt extract

  • Yeast extract

  • Brewer’s yeast

  • Corn starch

  • Wheat starch

  • Modified food starch

  • Gelatin

  • Textured protein (contains MSG more often than not)

  • Whey protein (contains MSG more often than not)

  • Soy protein (contains MSG more often than not)

  • Soy sauce (always has MSG)

  • Broth

  • Bouillon

  • Stock 

  • Seasoning mixes usually contain msg

Natural Flavors- any ingredients on a product that says “natural flavoring” is a hidden name for msg

  • Natural cherry flavor

  • Natural orange flavor

  • Natural lemon flavor

  • Natural fruit flavor

  • Smoke Flavor

  • Turkey Flavor

  • Beef Flavor

  • Natural peppermint flavor

  • Natural maple flavor

  • Natural chocolate flavor

  • Natural vanilla flavor (pure alcohol free vanilla extract is safe)

  • These are NOT just extracts of that fruit they are mixed with MSG

  • This is important to pay attention to in snacks parents buy for their children

Artificial Flavors- this name can represent any number of chemicals that are synthetic and pose a risk to our health

Artificial Sweeteners- most artificial sweeteners contain aspartame which disrupt our neurons and our central nervous system, long term use of artificial sweeteners can cause breakdown in the brain and strokes

Citric Acid- compared to the things I just mentioned citric acid isn’t quite as bad, but it is very irritating to the linings of the stomach and intestines

  • Citric acid is different that naturally occurring acid in citrus fruits

  • Citrus in fruits is healing

  • Citric acid often is derived from corn which is why its harmful
